Dear It's Called Soccer Family,
I have some incredibly exciting news to share with you today. It’s Called Soccer has been a labor of love for me—an adventure that began as a small passion project and grew into something far more significant, thanks to the unwavering support and enthusiasm from all of you, our amazing community. Today, I’m thrilled to announce a new chapter for our brand, one that will elevate what we’ve built together to even greater heights.
It was officially announced today that eight-time English Premier League winner, former Manchester United and England defender, and renowned broadcaster Gary Neville, along with his media channel, The Overlap, have acquired the It’s Called Soccer brand and will launch It’s Called Soccer! as an all-new digital series. This will see our beloved brand brought to life in a whole new way. The show is set to premiere on September 18, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead.
For a little background on this decision - my life has not slowed down since my wife and I welcomed our son into the world 18 months ago, and we have another on the way due on Halloween. My full time job isn’t getting easier and I’m not getting any younger. While I’d love nothing more than to be able to do soccer content full-time, that’s just not a realistic possibility.
Gary’s team came to me with a vision for a show that respects the American soccer fan and is built to grow the game here in the US. That is all I’ve ever wanted.
I’ll speak a little more on what this means for me, but know that I’m not going anywhere, just that you may see some changes to the names and logos around my content.
The Starting XI
Joining Gary Neville on this exciting journey are Jamie Carragher—another legend of English football and a familiar face from football coverage—and the esteemed Rebecca Lowe, the face of NBC’s Premier League broadcasts. Together, this dream team will dive deep into discussions and debates about the biggest leagues, clubs, and players from around the world, including our very own MLS. Not only will they cover football topics we all love, but they will also bring in top talent from sports, film, TV, and music to share their passion for the beautiful game.
Thank You
I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to each of you. It’s because of your passion, engagement, and love for soccer that we’ve been able to create something special over the years. Your voices, stories, and camaraderie have shaped It’s Called Soccer into more than just a platform—it’s a community. As we transition into this exciting new era with Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher, Rebecca Lowe, I’m incredibly proud to see the brand take this next step.
What to Expect Next
Starting September 18, 2024, It’s Called Soccer! will be available on YouTube and Spotify, as well as on your favorite podcast platforms. I have relinquished any control and am not involved in the long-term project, however there may be opportunities in the future for me to join as a US Soccer correspondent. I hope you’ll join me in supporting this new venture as it grows and continues to bring you great soccer content with a new twist.
Looking Forward Together
I believe that with this new direction, It’s Called Soccer will not only reach new audiences but also stay true to the ethos that brought us here—being authentic, passionate, and always soccer-obsessed.
Thank you for being part of the It’s Called Soccer journey. I can’t wait to see where this new adventure takes the show, and I’m incredibly thankful to all of you for making this possible. Let’s get ready for an exciting new season ahead!
