As the 2022 FIFA World Cup closes, we need to not lose sight over concerns about corruption in the host nation, Qatar. Reports have continued to suggest that Qatar have engaged in a widespread bribery campaign to secure the rights to host the prestigious international soccer tournament.
The allegations of corruption first surfaced in 2010, when Qatar was announced as the surprise winner of the bid to host the World Cup. Many were shocked by the decision, as Qatar had never before hosted a major international sporting event and had a population of just 2.3 million people.
