How a chance encounter at a coffee shop started it all
It was a shocking announcement that sent waves through the soccer world: Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney had agreed to purchase Wrexham, a historic Welsh soccer club that plays in the English Football League.
The news came out of nowhere, as Reynolds and McElhenney had never before expressed an interest in soccer or ownership of a sports team. But as it turned out, the actors had a deep love for the sport and a desire to make a positive impact on the community of Wrexham.
The process of purchasing Wrexham began with a chance encounter at a coffee shop in Los Angeles. Reynolds and McElhenney were both huge soccer fans and had been discussing the possibility of buying a team when they stumbled upon a group of Wrexham supporters at the coffee shop.
