Scally fires shots at Gregg Berhalter
On Wednesday this week Joe Scally joined Futbol Americas to discuss what he wants out of the next USMNT head coach. Scally said “A coach that understands we’re not a club team. We just need to understand the simple tactics, simple system.” When asked if that was what was wrong with Berhalter Scally seemed to imply that Berhalter’s system hindered players from playing their best. Anthony Hudson will take a similar team to Gold Cup and Nations League
Anthony Hudson in a press conference late this week stated a change of expectation for the roster this summer. Edgar Moreno on Twitter stated Hudson plans to take the same group of players to CNL final four & to the Gold Cup. Don’t expect two different rosters as just a few player changes may be needed. The idea is for the team to get more games together & build up chemistry for the upcoming events.
Malik Tillman has returned from Rangers to Bayern with a hamstring injury
With the European season starting to wrap up we’ll see more players getting shut down with injury for a longer rest. Malik Tillman had a successful stint at the historic Glasgow club in Scotland but has been decommissioned with a hamstring injury. Tillman is back with Bayern recovering and may never wear the famed blue kit again.
CCV has surgery on his knee and will be out for the next 3-4 months
On the other side of the Scottish rivalry is Cameron Carter-Vickers who has an injury of his own to worry about. Apparently he has been playing with a knee injury for the last few months and my favorite news of the week is what his coach said about him stating “I’m scared of him so I just let him do what he wants.” CCV will have surgery on the injured knee and be back for next season at Celtic unless he’s sold in the summer window.
Arsenal are close to signing New England player and US eligible Noel Buck
Arsenal made a surprise signing last season from MLS and no I’m not talking about Matt Turner. Auston Trusty who we’ll get to in a moment may be followed by New England player and US eligible midfielder who could be sold to Islington based London club for an estimated $3-5 million. Buck would then go on loan to the Championship. He does hold an English passport.
Auston Trusty wins Birmingham Supporter’s player of the season
The aforementioned Trusty on loan at Birmingham via Arsenal has won the supporter’s player of the season award for his stellar play in the English Championship. Can Trusty break into the Arsenal squad as a depth piece next season?
FC Utrecht will ask for $12m for sale of Taylor Booth
One of the more exciting come-ups this season as been the development of attacking midfielder Taylor Booth. Earlier this season he was getting scouted by clubs from all over Europe, and it looks like FC Utrecht will be hoping for a bidding war as they will accept $12m for the sale of Booth this summer. Where do you think he will end up?
U20 World Cup roster news ramping up
And finally the U20 World Cup in Indonesia Argentina is right around the corner! We’re starting to hear news about players that may of may not be released. We know the Chicago Duo of GK Chris Brady and attacking midfielder Brian Gutiérrez won’t be released, but those who will be released include Atlanta LB Caleb Wiley and Seattle Sounders prospect Obed Vargas. Jim Curtin has also promised to release any player from the Philadelphia Union called up to the squad.
